Utilitarian objects made during the depression
and war eras out of necessity and poverty are
now seen in a different light. We yearn for these
special handmade things in our lives today.
The inspiration for bidi came from Kylie
Rose McLean's Grandmother's blanket, made by her
mother in the 1920's from worn out socks. "I love
its eclectic beauty. It exudes a feeling of comfort,
great love and warmth - elements that 'make' a
home". bidi seeks to encapsulate these feelings
through beautifully handcrafted blankets, cushions,
bags and dolls.
Each piece of fabric has a story to tell, a history.
Sourced from old jumpers, unwanted shirts, outmoded
curtains and fabric remnants, the patched designs
have a life of their own and a name to match.
Each item is unique.
bidi derives from the endearing term 'old
biddy' (wise old woman), instilling the feeling
that Granny made each treasured item.
